Here at Element 17 we love nothing more than making people happy.  We are proud that so many of our clients have great things to say about us.  Like everyone else we work hard to get things right and know that we dont always do.  The biggest mistake you can make is not learning from your last mistake.  We strive to improve and get better and the testimonials here on our web page remind us that great work is the outcome of great collaboration. Thank you to all those clients out there that think highly of us and have great things to say.

Cheers from Steve and the Team

Lumiere CinemaView project

Lumiere Cinema
Lumiere Cinema

After a tip off and recommendation from a business associate we fell into the motivated and warm lap of Element 17.

Our brief was to create two state of the art boutique cinemas situated at 26 Rolleston Avenue at the Christchurch Arts Centre whilst recognizing, embellishing the significant cultural and heritage values of that site and it’s interface with our dream to replace the Academy Cinema taken away from us in the 2011 earthquake.

From the get- go Steve was in and thereafter a trip to China for fixtures and fittings was organized to get the project rolling, it helped immensely to have his knowledge of the bread basket over there, agents, pricing discussions, shipping, translators went very smoothly. The result of that trip was a huge success for us with regard to the choice available and favourable price points. Lest it be said, a cinema operation requires many threads and much knitting to make the Lumiere ‘battle ready’ in a very competitive market, I think we exceeded that ten- fold, not only by our own standards but the reception of the public to it’s look and feel.

I’d be most happy to recommend Steve Rosling and his team at Element 17, should you wish to contact me then the Lumiere is open to view.

Tip of the hat..

We have established multiple Hikari Japanese Restaurants around the South Island and received stellar service from Steve Rosling and his team at Element 17 over the years. Everyone we have worked with at Element 17 has always provided service on time, on budget and above expectations in a professional and friendly manner right to the end of each project and beyond. In our journey in hospo, Steve and his team play a crucial part in our operations. They work with us to find any opportunities and remove roadblocks on the way whatever they may be. We cannot recommend them highly enough and would definitely work with Steve and his team for our next project to come next year.

“Working with Steve and Emma at Element 17 challenged our thinking and at times pushed us out of our comfort zone.  Steve’s gentle but persuasive style resulted in a strong mix of colour, textures and some stunning finishing touches while balancing the functionality and practicality. The end result is spectacular and we are thrilled with our new building.”

I first used Steve and Element 17 for a refresh of The Old Vicarage Café, Restaurant & Bar in 2016 and was very pleased with the result.  Steve’s creative vision was a breath of fresh air for a tired premise and it had the immediate impact of rejuvenating sales. It was also great to work with a designer who had a solid consideration of budget and an effective office support team behind him.  I used Element 17 again in 2019 where Steve’s contacts and the organisation management of his team allowed us to reopen Winnie Bagoes on Wells Street and start making money in a seemingly impossible 4 week turnaround.  I would highly recommend. Muskets and Moonshine

I met Steve 8 years ago when the planning stages of Pub on Wharf were in progress, since then I have used Element 17 for other projects including the recently completed Muskets and Moonshine. This venue was purchased as a run down night club and had many alterations throughout the years leaving it in a sad state. After nearly a year of planning a layout, gaining consents with a difficult council and a large drop in budget we managed to renovate the venue to a level that now leaves no trace of what was there in the past while keeping it’s old world charm and breathing new life into the venue.

Throughout the challenges of this renovation I had constant talks with Steve and his team as the the build was on a very tight timeframe and a lot of “discoveries” needed to be sorted quickly, this is where I believe Steve and his team and contacts are far superior to many companies as they understand the cost and budgets involved plus the need to get jobs done quickly so the venues can reopen and start making money.

Element 17 were engaged to design and co-manage a complex multistage build on the West Coast of the South Island for Ngāi Tahu Tourism. They completed this at times challenging undertaking with skill, flair and an admirable eye for detail, which when combined with an innate sense of professionalism and fun made them a joy to be partnered with. The result is something that exceeded our expectations and one that will give our staff and customers satisfaction for years to come.

Element 17 were able to provide excellent project management on all aspects of the interior design from the selection of colours and fittings to office furniture. They were also instrumental in getting things right in the public work areas such as the layout for the drop-in workspaces. This involved maximising the effectiveness of the space available and managing to incorporate a stylish but business like look in the centre with the use of appropriate furnishings utilising our corporate colours.

They also created a custom design for the i-SITE reception desk which sits harmoniously within the business centre.

This was a complex project, juggling requirements for our own staff offices as well as the i-SITE and business centre in the public areas. Nonetheless we found Element 17 extremely easy to deal with. Their expertise was key in getting the interior absolutely right and they were flexible, responsive and able to adapt to changing requirements.

Element 17 and the team of contractors who worked on our office reconfiguration cannot be thanked enough for the work they did. The execution of the office reconfiguration was flawless, with contractors altering the space with almost no impact to our daily operations.  The team maintained a high level of professionalism at all times and were a real pleasure to work with. The teams commitment to health and safety was exceptional, closely aligning themselves to our Zero Harm vision very quickly.  Element 17's ability to plan the installation around our requirements made the process simple and nothing was ever a problem, with resolutions to challenges found quickly.  The level of communication from both Element 17 and all of their contractors throughout the process was second to none and meant that we always knew exactly what was going on. We will be looking to use Element 17 and their fantastic team of contractors again in the future.

A big thanks go to Steve and the team at Element17 who showed great vision in their design of Burger Culture.
First impressions are key in any successful restaurant and the look and feel of the venue is obviously crucial and we couldn’t be happier with our brand new burger joint.

Steve’s expertise were invaluable at the feasibility and helped us refine our concept.

There communication with us and our main contractor Fitzgerald Construction was second to none.
Our designer Rita and Steve were always available throughout the concept, detailed design and later stages, which was very important.

Thanks team, see you for a burger and a pint soon!

I hired Steve and the team at Element 17 because I knew they had not only great vision and great design ideas, but they understood that the customer - my customer - is at the centre of everything we do. Steve and his team developed an amazing, authentic experience for my customers. His choice of materials, colours and finishes was enlivening, and his understanding of customer flow and commercial imperatives was excellent. He guided me from concept through costing through construction and at every step I felt he and the team just got it. On a complex project requiring co-ordination of many different design professionals and a demanding client, the team at Element 17 excelled.

It’s been a pleasure to work with Element 17 on recent commercial fit outs at all three of our Christchurch locations. Steve and his team drew on their broad experience and innate design flair to come up with some practical designs, finishes and furniture choices that not only allow us to enjoy a beautiful and efficient workspace, but also help set us apart from more run of the mill office environments. Element 17 have left an indelible signature that reflects their talent in listening to their clients and turning raw ideas into a cohesive vision.

Corianders Flagship Restaurant

Steve and the team at Element 17 created an award-winning interior for me that represents the quality of food and service we have become known for. The use of colour, design and unique finishes has meant people come to not only experience the culture of our cuisine, but also the interior they dine in. I took Steve offshore to assist on the purchase of equipment and fittings and his perspective and knowledge of quality was beneficial to me and my project. Our relationship has grown and Element 17 have helped me design and build another restaurant since our flagship restaurant in the heart of Christchurch city. Not only does Steve and his team understand how to plan the inner workings of a commercial kitchen, but they also have the flair to create an instantly recognisable interior. That's why I look forward to working with them on future projects.

Element 17 Ltd were appointed to design and manage the fit outs of our two new offices in Christchurch and Kaiapoi. They were initially appointed to design and project manage our Kaiapoi offices. When it came time to proceed with our Christchurch fit out, we decided to appoint Element 17 based on our positive dealings with them up to that point. It was important that our Christchurch fit out be warm and welcoming, incorporating natural elements, in particular a large piece of Paunamu which we hold in trust for a client. The Element 17 team, led by Steve, designed a magnificent reception desk in Macrocarpa timbers where the Paunamu sits in harmony with the sustainable timber. The Element 17 team guided us through the project with professionalism, and managed the supplier relationships well. Steve has a great design aesthetic and incredible product knowledge. His team are dedicated and excellent to deal with.

We chose E17 from a short list of four design companies mainly because of their friendly, approachable, nothing's a problem attitude. Element 17 gave me input on my scope before I awarded the contract, they were willing to add value upfront. I would recommend E17 to others because E17 is a professional company who are focused on the best outcome possible for their client. My favourite element of our new space is the sense of space, the storage options mean that we are not cluttered and there is a place for everything.
