antarctica new zealand: christchurch
The brief was to make the extensive entrance area and meeting rooms
of Antarctica NZ do two things: make international and local visitors
instantly aware that the main business is the Antarctic, and secondly
it had to be an area that was able to professionally display the
creative work of those who had been "artists in residence" in
Antarctica. With the use of backlit ice-green molten cast glass and
white ice like floor tiles the visitor could be excused for thinking
they were in Antarctica. Gallery level "frame and focus"" ceiling
spotlights are used to highlight the work of the creative artists.
